Who Are We?

Program Director

Sam Gordon

Sam Gordon became program director of Innovate Stamford in November 2017.

Sam’s first taste of entrepreneurship started in 2009 with Vector Marketing, located not far from where he grew up in Huntington, NY. As an independent contractor, Sam built a customer base from scratch and his sales ranked #8 out of 1,000+ representatives. He was invited to join their management training and opened up his own branch office the following year. Here, Sam realized a passion for mentoring as his first trainee achieved #1 ranking for new representatives in New York. He did this while also pursuing full-time a B.S. in Natural Resources from the University of Connecticut, where he ultimately graduated with a Concentration in Environmental Conservation, a Minor in English, five internships, and culminated as the elected speaker for Commencement.

Since graduating, Sam was determined to apply his experience exclusively for the triple bottom line. At FarmTek, he launched an innovative marketing effort around a hydroponic animal feed system - improving health for animals, reducing emissions, saving the farmer money, and improving the resilience of our food systems. At Next Step Living, Sam worked with the public/private partnership Energize CT. Through their Home Energy Solutions and Home Performance with Energy Star Programs, Sam helped thousands of homeowners save money, live more comfortably, and reduce their carbon footprint. He conducted energy assessments, sold product, and referred business at an unprecedented rate. His success led to being selected as part of the launch team for a New York entry; as Field Manager, he ultimately led a team to their first profitable month.

Sam continued his work leading energy-efficiency startups as Vice President of Operations for Energy Management Solutions. From there, Sam worked with an education technology startup out of Old Greenwich, Level Up Village. Level Up Village pioneered a social impact business model where students in over thirty countries worked together to solve real-world problems and learn 21st Century Skills.

Currently, Sam is pursuing an M.S. with Green Mountain College in Resilient and Sustainable Communities. His appreciation for the impact possible in motivated communities led him to his current role as Program Manager for Innovate Stamford. Sam is going into his third year as a Stamford resident; his wife and him agree, as the saying goes, “This is the Place!”. Through Innovate Stamford, Sam aims to channel his background, skills, and experience for his community so that Stamford can flourish into the place people want to live, work, play, learn, and grow.
